At the end and beginning of each month, pharmacies and other medical institutions have experienced delays and network errors when running health‑insurance claim programs. The cause was identified as server overload on the Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service (HIRA) medical‑claim portal.
Pharmacies submit health‑insurance claims by accessing the HIRA portal through claim software installed on their internal PCs. When claim submissions concentrate at month‑end and month‑start, the high traffic can slow program execution or generate errors, according to the Pharmacy Association.
The association notes that many pharmacies contact the Pharmaceutical Information Center regarding the frequently used claim software, and the investigation confirmed that the delays stem from the portal’s server overload.
