STERIS has identified, through customer complaints, that a limited number of RAPICIDE™ Part A bottles in specific lots may begin to bulge or expand over time. Part A is the active component that generates peracetic acid, which can off‑gas during the product’s shelf‑life. The bottle cap is designed with a vent to allow this gas to escape, but if the vent becomes blocked, internal pressure can increase, causing the bottle to swell.
When the cap is twisted open, excess vapor or liquid may escape, posing a risk of user exposure if appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is not used. Such exposure could result in injury to the user or nearby individuals.
STERIS will issue a customer notification letter to all consignees who purchased the affected lots, outlining required procedures and PPE. The chemistry itself remains safe and effective when used as labeled, and replacement product will be provided for any items that must be disposed of.
