Ying Qin is a licensed pharmacist in Texas, USA, and a passionate researcher committed to advancing biomedical science. She graduated from the University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNT HSC) College of Pharmacy in 2023. During her final year of clinical rotations in different hospitals, Ying encountered numerous challenging cases where medical advancements could no longer provide relief to patients. These experiences profoundly impacted her, motivating her to transition into biomedical research to contribute to the discovery of novel therapeutic strategies, providing hope and additional options for physicians, patients, and their families. Following her graduation, Ying was admitted to the Ph.D. program at the UNT HSC College of Biomedical and Translational Science in 2023. She is now a second-year Ph.D. student in Dr. Hongli Wu’s laboratory, where her research focuses on elucidating the molecular mechanisms of aging and age-related chronic diseases. Her work emphasizes age-associated ocular conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma, and age-related macular degeneration (AMD). By unraveling the biological underpinnings of these conditions, Ying aims to contribute to the development of innovative treatments that improve the quality of life for aging populations. Ying’s academic journey has been marked by excellence and recognition. During her undergraduate studies, she was selected for the National Science Foundation (NSF)-sponsored Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program at Texas A&M University-Commerce, where she gained valuable research experience. Her dedication to academic achievement continued during pharmacy school, where she earned multiple scholarships. She is also a proud member of several prestigious organizations, including the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the Rho Chi Society, the national pharmacy honor society. Before moving to the United States from China, Ying worked as a clinical supply chain leader for international contract research organizations (CROs) and pharmaceutical companies. Her role involved designing clinical supply chains and educating investigators on managing investigational products for global clinical trials. These experiences equipped her with a unique skill set that bridges clinical practice and research, further enriching her contributions to biomedical science. Through her academic and professional endeavors, Ying remains dedicated to advancing scientific knowledge and improving patient outcomes, particularly in the context of aging and age-related diseases.
