EnVAX-A71 is an inactivated Enterovirus A71 (EV-A71) vaccine developed to prevent EV71-associated hand, foot, and mouth disease and herpangina in infants and young children. Produced through a bioreactor-based process, it showed 99.21% efficacy in a multicenter Phase III trial with a favorable safety profile, including 100% efficacy against EV71-associated hospitalization and severe complications. Cross-neutralization has been demonstrated against EV71 sub-genogroups B4, B5, C2, C4, and C5, and long-term follow-up showed sustained immunity, with seroprotection rates of 100% at 2 years in Vietnam and 94.7% at 7 years in Taiwan. Dosed at 1 microgram/0.5 mL (at least 1.5 U) per dose, given as 2 intramuscular doses 28 days apart, for children aged 2 months to under 6 years.
