Neuromuscular blocking (NMB) agents are widely used alongside anesthesia to support tracheal intubation, mechanical ventilation, and surgical access. Sugammadex reverses the effect of the non-depolarizing blockers rocuronium and vecuronium by acting as a selective binding agent for these molecules, avoiding the cardiovascular side effects seen with reversal agents that act directly on the cholinergic system. Its gamma-cyclodextrin core is modified with acidic side chains that create an electrostatic attraction to the blockers' positively charged nitrogen center.
