专业摘要

My name is Murtala Abdullahi. I am a Nigerian by citizenship. I am married with kids. At an early age, I realized that I had more questions than answers about life and living things and medicines. A growing interest in understanding the origin, structure, function and mechanism of action of drugs led me to earn a degree in pharmacy. In truth, I believe that an education degree will allow me to explore all aspects of the educational field, and provide myself with an excellent basis for a career in Pharmaceutical sciences. I graduated with B.Pharm degree at Ahmadu Bello University zaria in 2011, I became a licensed Pharmacist regulated by the Pharmacist Council of Nigeria and a member of Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria. Due to my passion for education and eager to learn current trends in research and clinical practice I proceed for postgraduate studies MSc. Pharmacology at Bayero University Kano in 2016 and I graduated in 2020. During my undergraduate program I conducted experiment and analyzed data on projects titled “Knowledge, Perception and Attitudes of Healthcare Professional in Clinical Pharmacy in Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital Zaria. In this research it was inferred that the impact of Clinical Pharmacy cannot be over emphasized these include pharmaceutical care, drug interaction detection, adverse effect, contraindications among others. Furthermore, my postgraduate study thesis titled “Evaluation of Toxic Effects of Aqueous Leaf Extract of Terminalia catappa Linn in Pregnant Rats. The experiment involved biochemical, hematological, histological and organ-bath experiment on rat uterus. The research model was unique, in that no literature had reported the tocolytic effect of the plant on the uterus. This paper is currently undergoing review for publication. Working in this lab has helped me to become adept at data analysis and experimental design and to learn how exciting biological/pharmacological research can be. For the past ten years of clinical practice I have been committed and refined my interests to the study of clinical pharmacology. In this course, I have been opportune to attend several courses, workshops and trainings organized by University of Washington Department of Global Health, Global Fund, Management Sciences for Health (MSH), Maternal Newborn and Child Health Program (MNCH2), Institute of Human Virology Nigeria (IHVN), National Malaria Program, and International Centre for AIDS Care and Treatment Program / Centre for Integrated Health Program (CIHP/ICAP), Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), National Reproductive Health, HIV & AIDS Prevention and Care Project and National Health Logistic Management Information system (NHLMIS). My reasons for pursuing a career in pharmacology are numerous. It equip me with on-the-job training experience that will afford me a well-rounded skill with first-hand organizational and problem-solving skills in clinical settings. It will also provide an atmosphere to strengthen public health surveillance in ADRs, preparedness and response in case of ADR and advent of new molecules. This will also help to facilitate effective communication networking among multidisciplinary health practitioners. It will also help to develop capacity that will contribute effectively to pharmaceutical research activities for human, animal and environmental health. I also look forward to gaining more responsibilities that would enable me to improve the efficiency of my services. My ultimate career goal is to lead a research laboratory/institution studying pharmacology and therapeutic. I seek to become a research lead at a research-intensive institution such that I will have adequate resources to conduct my desired research.
