Field Application Specialist

Field Application Specialist with over 15 years’ experience in the Pathology & Diagnostics fields. I completed an MSc in Biomedical Sciences (with distinction) and a Specialist Diploma in Haematology & Blood Transfusion in London, UK. I also hold an IBMS Certificate of Expert Practice in Training, a Lean Yellow Belt Certificate, and gained fellowship of the Academy of Clinical Science & Laboratory Medicine (ACSLM) (Ireland). I have worked as a registered Biomedical Scientist in large UK Hospitals since 2009, covering Haematology, Coagulation and Blood Transfusion in 24/7 multidisciplinary shift systems, including on-call (lone working across all areas within blood sciences). I have held a number of senior positions since 2018, including Shift Supervisor & Training Officer in Blood Sciences (line manager and responsible for local training and competency assessment, including mentoring for several modules of the IBMS Specialist Diploma in Haematology and Blood Transfusion), and Senior BMS/Team Manager in Haematology and Blood Transfusion (day-to-day management of a laboratory section and team; reviewing processes/ workflows and implementing change in order to improve the quality & efficiency of the service). I also have significant Quality Management experience including performing audits, route cause analysis, dealing with complaints, incident reporting, and writing/ revising laboratory SOPs and Policies to ensure compliance with ISO 15189. Throughout my career I have been responsible for the validation and implementation of new tests and laboratory equipment in different areas of Pathology. I also supported the delivery of a new Pathology LIMS system (Cerner Millennium PathNet) as Super User for the Blood Bank module. I am passionate about training and process improvement, and I have published five research papers and presented several posters at scientific events. I can provide in-depth advice, training and technical expertise in several areas of Pathology.
