Researchers at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston published findings in the journal Thorax on June 30. The analysis included two cohorts: 1,165 children and 1,041 adults with asthma. Participants with higher serum vitamin A concentrations demonstrated superior pulmonary function across both age groups. In contrast, elevated vitamin D levels were associated with improved lung function only among adult asthma patients.
These results suggest a potential role for vitamin A supplementation in managing asthma-related respiratory impairment, while the benefit of vitamin D may be limited to adult populations.
