The South Korean National Assembly has officially launched a "Task Force for Accelerating the Revision of Unconstitutional Laws" (위헌법률 정비 활성화 TF). The move follows a directive from Speaker Jo Jeong-sik, who, after taking office, emphasized the need to protect fundamental rights and realize a people‑sovereign parliament by swiftly revising laws that conflict with the Constitution.
In August, the Assembly’s plenary session reported its first results in revising unconstitutional statutes. The task force will now conduct investigations to determine urgency and set priorities for amendment. As of the latest count, 15 statutes are identified as unconstitutional and 12 as constitutionally inconsistent, totaling 27 laws slated for revision.
The task force is headed by the legislative chief (입법차장) and operates within the National Assembly to coordinate the amendment process.
